The long-awaited Chongqi Bridge, which took three years to complete, was opened to traffic on December 24, 2019!
 
At 11 am on the 24th, a grand opening ceremony was held in Shanghai and Jiangsu, which marked the official opening of the Chongqi Bridge connecting Jiangsu and Shanghai.
 
At 11:20, Yu Zhengsheng, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, Li Shenglin, Minister of Transportation, and Luo Zhijun, Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, jointly launched the crystal ball, and the Chongqi Bridge was officially opened to traffic. At 11:22, the first "Qihu Intercity Express" and the "vegetable basket" engineering vehicle carrying fruits and vegetables passed the Chongqi Bridge.
 
The Chongqi Bridge was built directly by Jiangsu and Shanghai. It starts from Chenjia Town, Chongming Island, Shanghai, connects with the Chongming River Crossing Channel, and connects with the Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway through Huiping Town, Qidong, Jiangsu, forming an east-west traffic artery in China. The Chongqi Yangtze River Highway Bridge is an important part of the Shanghai-Xi'an National Expressway, as well as an integral part of the Yangtze River Delta Expressway network and the expressway network of Jiangsu Province and Shanghai. The bridge is about 52 kilometers long, of which the deck of the Yangtze River Bridge is about 7.2 km. The completion and opening of the Chongqi Bridge will play an important role in promoting the regional economic integration of the Yangtze River Delta, giving play to the radiating role of Shanghai to the central and western regions, and serving the coastal development strategy of Jiangsu Province, and will truly achieve a win-win situation between Jiangsu and Shanghai.
